The Riverside Restaurant
Our update so far for 2017.
We started this year on a high. With a busy start to the season, our new menus & wine list in place & the unexpected nomination for the Scottish Food Awards & Academy which we won a gold medal for our real & local food & also Inverness Neighbourhood Restaurant of the Year. We were all set for a busy summer season.
However, in July 2017 Leigh was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After a few unusual symptoms a trip to A & E & a CT scan. The shocking diagnosis was made. So treatment began & a few months later, he has currently under gone 4 rounds of chemotherapy with the 5th just a week away.
Due to this diagnosis we had to make the decision to close the restaurant until Leigh was able to get back on his feet. This has very slowly been happening over the past couple of weekends. We have been opening the restaurant on a Friday & Saturday night in between treatment & have been planning for the future with a different approach to the restaurant hours & style in the New Year with the aim to be fully back open in March 2018. (You can find our updates on our Facebook Page also)
During the time that we closed we took the opportunity to raise money for The Macmillan Suite at Raigmore Hospital & also Macmillan Cancer Support. The care, support & medical treatment Leigh has received has been outstanding & Leigh wanted to give something back to the departments that have done so much for him. So our coffee morning was held & what a turn out we had. We cannot thank everyone enough that baked cakes, brownies & tray bakes for us. (Also all our volunteers that helped behind the scenes in the lead up to our coffee morning & today with making our coffee morning a big success)
We have been truly overwhelmed that our awareness raising in the local newspapers & social media have really helped others with their current battles including Lymphoma, So, thank you for feeling that you could come down & share your stories on the day and by private messages on our Facebook page. You are in our thoughts & we are with you in this fight.
Everyone that came to our coffee morning, donated to our just giving page & also bought a ticket or 2 for our raffle raised over £2,000. This is shortly being donated to Leigh chosen departments at the hospital.
Everything that has been raised & donated is beyond anything we could ever imagine when we first set out to raise money. However, this is not the end of our fundraising. We are now doing “Tea for Treatment” which we hope will raise enough tea & coffee to help towards to care of patients whilst they undergo treatment. You can find this on our “Current Appeal” section of our website.
We have been overwhelmed in your support of our fundraising efforts & Leigh is very touched by your messages of support & generosity in helping him raise for Macmillan Caner Support & Oncology Macmillan suite, Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. A very cause close to his heart & many others.
With our sincere appreciation
